Policy On Clean-Out Responsibility

In accordance with State law, the Borough of Berlin cannot maintain sewer laterals extending from your home to the sewer main in the street. Therefore, if you experience a sewer back-up in your lateral, you may either call a licensed plumber or sewer cleaning service. However, the Borough of Berlin will not reimburse you for lateral back-up service calls.
If it is determined by the licensed plumber or sewer cleaning company that the sewer main is blocked and causing your lateral to back-up, please contact the Borough of Department of Public Works at (856) 767-0056 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and we will clear the sewer main blockage free of charge. If your licensed plumber or sewer cleaning company gives you an invoice or bill for that specific call, you may take the invoice or bill to the Borough of Berlin’s Clerk’s office and request to receive a reimbursement.
