    • August 4th to August 8th

    • September 1st to September 5th

    • October 6th to October 10th

    • November 3rd to November 7th

    • December 1st to December 5th

  • Materials that are considered bulk would include but not limited to:
    • METAL AND HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES: This includes washers, dryers, ovens, hot water heaters, bed frames, metal window frames etc.
    • CAR AND TRUCK BATTERIES: Place at curb.
    • CAR AND SMALL TRUCK TIRES: Please take tires off rims.
    • USED MOTOR OIL: Place oil in containers clearly marked used motor oil and put at curb.
    • USED ANTI-FREEZE: Place anti-freeze in containers clearly marked used anti-freeze and put at curb.
    • CARPETING: Carpeting should be cut in 4 ft. lengths and weigh no more than 50 lbs. Place rolled carpet at the curb for pick up.
    • FURNITURE: Place furniture at the curb for pick up.
    • WOOD: Wood should be cut in 4 ft. lengths and weigh no more than 50 lbs. Fencing material is NOT considered wood bulk.
  • Bulk items that will not be collected are:
    • Any hazardous materials
    • Construction and remodeling debris such as plywood, bricks, concrete, asphalt, sheet rock, insulation, flooring, shingles and siding. Contractors and homeowners are responsible for the removal of these items
    • No extra trash bags will be collected
    • Any trash cans

  • Bulk trash and trash placed at the curb improperly
    • Bulk trash not placed at the curb on the proper day for pick up will be tagged.  If the bulk trash is not moved back from the curb, after being tagged, the Property Maintenance Officer will issue a warning.
    • Any bagged trash placed at the curb and not in the automated cart WILL NOT be picked up.  This trash will also be tagged. If the trash is not placed in the automated cart or moved back from the curb, the Property Maintenance Officer will issue a warning. Failure to comply with these warnings will result in fines.  Additional carts may be purchased at the Borough Hall Clerks Office for $65 if you feel that the one cart that was issued is not sufficient.
  • Automated carts left at curb
    • Per Borough of Berlin Ordinance # 39, all 65 gallon and 95 gallon automated carts as well as 20 gallon recycling buckets must be brought back from the curb within 24 hours of your scheduled pick up. Failure to comply with this ordinance will result in a warning from the Property Maintenance Officer and if necessary fines.
    • The Borough of Berlin is receiving many complaints from residents who do not wish to look at these carts left at the curb all the time. Carts left at the curb on an ongoing basis do not make for a clean community. Homeowners are responsible for their cart. If the cart is stolen, the Borough will not replace the cart for free. Homeowners who have carts stolen will be required to purchase a new cart for $50. Therefore, it is important to move the cart off the curb as soon as possible after the cart has been emptied.

NOTE:  The Public Works Department facility on Watsontown - New Freedom Road is open on Saturdays from 8:00am to 12:00pm for residents who wish to drop off bulk items that they do not wish to hold for their next pick-up.  We DO NOT except remodeling debris at this site or on bulk week.

2008 Organic Pick-Up

  • PICK UP SCHEDULE
    • March 17th to November 14th organics will be picked up on your scheduled trash and recycling day.
    • January, February, week after Thanksgiving and all of December, organics will be picked up on Thursdays.
    • There will be NO organic pick up Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's weeks.

2008 Chipper Schedule

  • Beginning on June 9th and continuing through June 27th, all residents may place untied brush at curbside to be chipped.  Note:  This pick up is for light pruning and cleaning of your property, not wholesale tree clearing!  The Borough of Berlin will not be responsible for picking up brush and logs at these locations.
  • The Public Works Department requests that all loose brush be stacked with butt ends of branches facing the curb in lengths not to exceed 6 feet.  This will be the only time of the year that it will be permissible to place untied brush at the curb.

2008 Spring and Fall Leaf Collection

  • The Public Works Department picks up leaves in the Spring and Fall.  Spring collection will begin on March 31st and finish on April 18th.  Fall collection will begin on November 30th and finish on December 19th.  There will be NO leaf collection Thanksgiving week
  • Do not place leaves in plastic bags.  It is, however, permissible to put leaves in bio-degradable bags or trash cans.  Additionally, as in the past, please rake only leaves out to the curb.  Please do not mix brush and twigs in the leaves since this will clog the leaf machine and your leaves will not be picked up.

Recycling

  • If your recycling bucket is cracked or if you need an additional bucket please contact the DPW office during business hours and a bucket will be dropped off to your residence.
  • Recycle items picked up by the Borough of Berlin:
    • GLASS AND CANS - This does not include broken glass, light bulbs, mirrors, and window or auto glass.  Please place in 20-gallon yellow recycling bucket and put at least 4 feet. from the automated trash cart.
    • PLASTIC CONTAINERS - Examples of plastic containers that should be recycled are: soda bottles, household cleaning containers, milk and water containers, laundry detergent bottles and personal care containers.  Plastic containers should also be placed in 20 gallon yellow bucket.
    • NEWSPAPER AND MAGAZINES - This item should be tied and bundled or placed in paper bags. Please do not use plastic bags.
    • CARDBOARD - The borough is no longer picking up any cardboard that is not placed out at the curb in the following manner:
All corrugated boxes are to be cut and tied in bundles not to exceed 2 ft. long by 1 ft. wide.  Smaller boxes may be placed in larger NOT to exceed dimensions given above.  Flattened or loose boxes not tied or secured will not be picked up.  Additionally, boxes filled with plastic, styrofoam, or trash of any kind will also NOT be picked up.
  • Occasionally, the Public Works Department still notices that some residents recycle all types of cardboard.  This is not what the recycling center in Camden is looking for.  The only cardboard that the center wants us to recycle is corrugated.  The following are some examples of cardboard that the center is not looking for: pizza boxes, cereal boxes, juice boxes and game boxes.
  • If you are unsure as to what is or is not recyclable, please contact the DPW office during business hours.  We thank you for your continued cooperation in this matter.
