Vital Statistics
- The couple applies for a license in the Borough of Berlin if the female is from Berlin.
- Proof is required from both male and female; example, photo driver's license, birth certificate, passport, divorce papers, if applicable, death certificate, if widowed, and a witness, 18 years of age or older, who knows both parties.
- If applicants are getting married in the Borough of Berlin but are from out of state, the application is made in Berlin.
- The processing fee of $28.00 is paid on the day of application.
- There is a seventy-two (72) hour waiting period before a marriage license may be issued.
- Once issued, the license is only good for 30 days.
- Certified copies are available upon request from the municipality you are married in. The fee varies for each municipality.

- Berlin Borough's records for births only go back to 1927, therefore, if a record is needed before then, you must apply to the State of New Jersey.
- In order to obtain a birth record, you must provide proof of your identity and have been born in Berlin Borough. Records may be
obtained by family members only with proof of relationship.

- Death records are kept in the Borough of Berlin if the death occurred in Berlin.
- In order to obtain a death record, you must provide proof of your identity.
- Death records may be obtained by family members with proof of relationship to the deceased and or the executor or executrix of the estate.
- Certified copies of death records are not given out to any divorcee unless they were the informant on the death record.
- Funeral directors/establishments may obtain death records if they were the director on record as long as it is requested on their business letter head.

Licensing & Permits

Dogs & Cats
- Animals must have current, up to date immunization records before a license can be issued.
- Dog licenses are $8.20 for all neutered and spayed animals and $11.20 if not neutered or spayed.
- Licenses are required for all dogs on a yearly basis and due by April 30 of each year before a $25.00 late fee is assessed.
- Cat licenses are also required each year at the cost of $10.00.
- All licenses may be obtained through the mail if you send the following; previous year's license, if there is one, or a filled out animal form (can be obtained on this web site) along with a self addressed, stamped envelope and the fee that applies.

Raffle Licenses/Bingo/All Games of Chance
- State guideline applications may be obtained in the clerk's office.
- Applications should be submitted long in advance of event to give time for approval.
- Most fees are $20.00 per event to the State of New Jersey and $20.00 to the municipality.
- Additional fees will be required if applicable to type of game.
- All businesses in the Borough of Berlin are required to obtain a mercantile license with the exception of the businesses licensed by the State of New Jersey.
- Mercantile licenses are approved by the Governing Body.
- Mercantile fees are set by Borough Code.
- Applications with instructions may be obtained in the borough clerk's office.
- All apartments in Berlin Borough need to fill out an application giving specific information regarding the rental unit or units.
- Applications may be obtained in the borough clerk's office.
- Apartment fees are $50.00 per year per unit.
- Yard sale permits are required in the Borough of Berlin.
- Yard sale permit fees are $3.00.
- Permits may be obtained in the borough clerk's office.

Miscellaneous
- Voter registration forms may be obtained from the borough clerk's office and from other facilities such as government post offices, government offices and all county offices.
- Absentee applications, both civilian and military may be obtained from the borough clerk's office. These applications are also always published in the local newspapers before elections.
- Change of party affiliation forms may be obtained from the borough clerk's office.
- Notary service is available in the borough clerk's office Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at no charge for borough residents.

- Additional trash carts may be purchased through the borough clerk's office. The costs of the trash collection container (carts) are $65.00.

- Recycling buckets may also be ordered through the clerk's office. There is no charge for the recycling buckets.
