Senior and Disabled Snow Removal
flower Senior and Disabled Snow Removal

About the Snow Removal Program

The Camden County Freeholder Board offers assistance to senior citizens and disabled residents who are unable to remove significant amounts of snow accumulation from their properties.

The Snow Removal Program is available to help seniors and disabled individuals get out of their homes for necessities such as prescriptions or medical appointments. The program uses Camden County Correctional Facility inmates who are carefully screened, non-violent offenders who are guarded at all times on the job site by corrections officers The Senior Snow Removal Program is an extension of the facilitys Road Crew Program.

The Snow Removal Program will go into effect only AFTER 4 inches of snow have fallen on he ground in our area.

Requesting Snow Removal

Calls for snow removal will not be taken until after it has stopped snowing. At that time, at-risk elderly and disabled residents can contact the Camden County Division of Emergency Management at 856-783-4808 ext. 5060.

Work crews will be dispatched only after it has stopped snowing. The work crews will remove snow only during daylight hours from 8:00 am TO 3:00 pm. Crews will respond to calls in the order they are received and will service as many residents as possible each day. There are no guaranteed times when the crews will arrive at a residence.

Senior and disabled residents must call after each substantial snowfall to request this service.

The Department of Corrections will supply the needed equipment. The program does not supply salt or ice-melting chemicals, but crews will dispense them if supplied by residents. Contact and conversation between the inmates and the public are prohibited. Gratuities and gifts or money, food, drink or any other item is strictly prohibited.

Information from the Clerk's Office
flower When an ordinance is being introduced at a council meeting, the copies of the ordinance are available in the clerks office the next day. Also, for those of you who subscribe to the Courier Post, the introduced ordinances are always published in full a few days after introduction noting the date, time and place of the public hearing for said ordinance.

This gives the public ample time to understand the ordinance and be prepared for questions at the public hearing if necessary.

As always, the clerks office is available to review any and all resolutions and ordinances during working hours. Thank you.

Safe Transaction Zone
flower Safe Transaction Zone

SafetyThe Berlin Police Department is proud to announce the designation of a safety zone where citizens can make sales and purchases through sites like Craigslist.

"The safe transaction zones are designed to help protect our citizens as robberies, thefts and scams become more prevalent with online transaction sites," says Chief Michael DeLorenzo.

Safe Transaction Zones have been set up in the lobby and surrounding parking lots of the Berlin Police Headquarters at 59 S. White Horse ...

The announcement comes after a previous investigation where a man was charged in the deaths of a couple whose bodies were found in rural Georgia. They apparently were lured by the suspect through a Craigslist ad with hopes of buying an antique Mustang convertible. The victims, in their 60s, had been shot in the head.

Members of the Berlin Police Department say they will not participate in transactions or act as witnesses. "Our employees are not available for legal advice or allowed to settle disputes between parties involved in transactions occurring in our facility," Chief DeLorenzo said. Transactions involving weapons, drugs and/or drug paraphernalia are barred from the zones.

The lobby of the Berlin Police Department is available 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Anyone using the lobby to complete a transaction is asked to notify the police matron. Residents using the facility during the weekend or after hours are encouraged to use the parking lots which are under video surveillance.

To Pet Owners
flower The municipal clerks office is getting a lot of complaints about animal waste on sidewalks and grass near and around sidewalks in many areas of the borough. Realizing that animal owners do not have many areas to walk their pets, we ask that you carry with you the means of disposing of your pets waste. It is very unfair for our community to be subject to this problem and it is very unfair for those of you who are considerate and DO pick up after your animals.

Below is a link put out by the Department of Environmental Protection that we also have posted under our Storm Water Management Site. Please take the time to read this article and please help us keep Berlin clean.
