Curb-line leaf pick-up has begun and will continue through December 13th or until all piles that have been put out have been picked up. Please note that every attempt will be made to pass through the entire borough weekly. Mike Denomme, President of the Berlin Rotary Club 2012-2013 presents a defibulator, chosen as the "President's Project" to Mayor John Armano and Health & Recreation Chairman Councilman Jim Pearce for the Berlin Community Center at a Rotary Meeting held at the Community Center on Monday, October 14, 2013.

Berlin Borough Council members James Bilella, Scott Scelso and Gary Knight attended a training session with the Berlin Fire Department at the Camden County Fire Academy. The Councilmen had the opportunity to experience the smoke filled building, tried on the firefighter’s gear and a lesson on operating the ladder truck. The experience was well received. Saturday, September 7th was the Berlin Soccer Club’s Opening Day. Mayor Armano, Council President Jim Bilella and Councilman Jim Pearce were there to kick the first ball to start off the 2013 season.

As a reminder, all 2013 balances for tax, water sewer and CCMUA must be paid by the end of the 2013 tax year. Any balances not paid by 12/31/2013 will be subject to the tax sale process. Please call the office with any questions you may have regarding your open balances. Also, September utility bills have been mailed out with a September 30, 2013 due date. To assist you, we accept payments by mail, in person or in the drop box located on the back porch of the Municipal Building located at 41 South White Horse Pike, Berlin.

Please take note that on September 21, all household hazardous waste material may be brought to the Pennsauken Sanitary Landfill located at 9600 River Road in Pennsauken between the hours of 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. The next drop off day and location will be October 19, 2013 a the Lindenwold Camden County Public Works, 2311 Egg Harbor Road, Lindenwold between the hours of 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.

To the businesses and residents of Berlin Borough…… The Inter-Community Celebration Association would like to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone who lives and works in this town. This goes for the residents, the businesses, the Public Works department, the Municipal Office employees, and the Police/Fire departments. The events that occur on the 4th of July take a large amount of planning and cooperation not only between our committee members but we also have to work with our suppliers, local governments and the Camden County Parks department. As a matter of fact we are already discussing plans for 2014. As a committee we need your feedback telling us that you like what we are doing. The monetary donations show your support but we need to know too. Our committee is a small one with plenty of jobs. I have been involved with various aspects of this celebration going on 20 years now. I have seen people come and people go. However, now we are in need of volunteers to bring in fresh ideas and talents. Our parade and fireworks are great traditions that need to be kept alive and new. There is always room for improvement. July 4, 2013 was a Great Celebration for both the Borough of Berlin and Berlin Township. Thanks to all that participated in helping make this tradition another wonderful event.

The Office of Property Maintenance monitors the condition of properties throughout the Borough to create a uniform standard in order to protect the safety, health and welfare of the general public. Property Maintenance addresses issues regarding structural and sanitary conditions of properties and dwellings. Violations of those conditions include, but are not limited to the following topics: Unsanitary conditions – the accumulation of rubbish, garbage, refuse, overgrown grass and weeds, dead and dying trees or other natural growth. Deterioration of premises – unsafe structures, and any other appearance or condition that creates a blighting effect on the neighborhood. This includes any condition that would be a threat to the health and safety of the general public. The deadline for residents to file their 2012 Senior Freeze (Property Tax Reimbursement) applications has been extended to September 16, 2013. The original deadline was June 3, 2013. The Division of Taxation mailed 2012 Property Tax Reimbursement (PTR) applications in February, and many eligible residents still need time to file. Those who are eligible but have not yet filed can complete and mail in their PTR applications now. Reimbursement checks for eligible senior and disabled residents who file their 2012 applications by the original June 3 deadline are scheduled to be mailed in mid-July. Checks for eligible applicants who file 2012 applications after the original June 3 deadline will be processed and delivered as quickly as possible thereafter. Newest Eagle Scout in Berlin Borough Sean Gillespie was presented with a proclamation from Mayor Armano at the June 3rd council meeting.

Mayor Armano attended the NJ Conference of Mayor’s in Atlantic City and won a raffle and was able to pick two charities of his choice to donate the money to. NJ American Water presented the check in the amount of $1,000.00 to St. Vincent De Paul and the Berlin Borough Senior’s Club at the council meeting held June 3, 2013.

Berlin EMS Update 2013 On behalf of our members, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the residents and local businesses as well as our Mayor and Council members for their continued support in 2012. In 2012 our department was dispatched to a total of 2329 emergency calls. There were 854 in Berlin Township, 1055 in Berlin Borough and an additional 420 mutual aid calls to the surrounding communities. for more information click here

The municipal clerk’s office is getting a lot of complaints about animal waste on sidewalks and grass near and around sidewalks in many areas of the borough. Realizing that animal owners do not have many areas to walk their pets, we ask that you carry with you the means of disposing of your pet’s waste. It is very unfair for our community to be subject to this problem and it is very unfair for those of you who are considerate and DO pick up after your animals. If you are over the age of sixty-five, own your own home and earn $10,000.00 or less per year (not including social security) you may be eligible for a senior citizen/disabled deduction. Forms are available for download on the borough’s website or applicants can apply at the Tax Office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

On April 20, Mayor John Armano and Councilman Gary Knight attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for two new businesses in Berlin Borough and also to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Anita’s Jewelry located at 136 So. White Horse Pike. The two new stores are Berlin Blossom and the other is Chocolates by Nancy located at the corner of the White Horse Pike and Estaugh Avenue. Everyone wishes these businesses well and to continue using these establishments to keep Berlin down town growing.

The Senior Citizens Club of Berlin Borough had an exciting day April 17th. They officially moved into their new location at 131 S. White Horse Pike. To add to the excitement of the day, Mayor Armano handed the keys to Ida Mae Clegg, President of the Senior Club organization for their transportation. The seniors have scheduled a “Grand Opening” at their new location on June 1, 2013 at 12 noon. Everyone wishes the senior organization the best of luck.

On April 16th a plaque was dedicated to former President Roy Schmidt at the Old Railroad Station. He was instrumental in the moving of the Berlin Hotel and it’s renovation along with other projects in town with the Berlin Fire Company and the Railroad Station.

April 13th was opening day for the Berlin AA at the Community School fields. Opening Day started with the re-dedication of the Teddy Moos Memorial and his wife and family were in attendance. Mayor John Armano, Council President Jim Bilella, Councilmen Nick Maccaroni, Jim Pearce, and Gary Knight were in attendance as well. Mayor Armano threw out the first pitch and it was a great event to start the baseball season. Good luck to all the teams!

Autism Awareness “Hands Around the Lake” program was held April 9, 2013 at Archway in Atco, NJ. This program helped promote autism awareness. There was entertainment, food and music and it was a great event. Everyone should be encouraged to come out next year and support this program.

The ANMAC, VFW Post 6253 located in Berlin, NJ hosted a Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Winners for 2012-2013 Luncheon on April 7, 2013. Meghann M. Herman was honored as 1st. Place Voice of Democracy winner and William M. Michaelis was the proud 1st. place Patriots Pen Winners. Awards were given to a total of six 1st. 2nd. and 3rd. place winners Post commander, Kevin P. Krasovetz, Opened and closed the ceremony with prayer and lead the pled of allegiance to the Flag while Dennis Chance narrated a very successful program. The Mayor of Berlin Borough, John J. Armano, gave encouraging remark to the winners. District 7 Ladies Auxiliary President, Camilla Albano spoke regarding the Ladies Aux., and Past State Commander, Earl Courter spoke about the VFW as guest speaker.
