Trash / Recycling
flower Notice to all Berlin Residents who have Thursday’s trash / recycling route.

Please note that the recycling truck broke down this morning when attempting to start the recycling pick ups. Please leave your recycling can out and we will attempt to pick up tomorrow, Friday, July 24, 2015.

Thank you.
Information from the Clerk's Office
flower When an ordinance is being introduced at a council meeting, the copies of the ordinance are available in the clerk’s office the next day. Also, for those of you who subscribe to the Courier Post, the introduced ordinances are always published in full a few days after introduction noting the date, time and place of the public hearing for said ordinance.

This gives the public ample time to understand the ordinance and be prepared for questions at the public hearing if necessary.

As always, the clerk’s office is available to review any and all resolutions and ordinances during working hours. Thank you.
Brush Cleanup

As of today, Blatherwick Woods has been completed except for the wooded side of Evanine Drive. That will be done at the end of the clean up because of the lack of houses on that side of the road. This will take approximately one week once work commences as we do not want to slow down our process for the other residential areas.

We are now continuing from Tansboro/New Freedom Roads and the surrounding areas towards Jackson Road and then over towards the borough hall area. We anticipate this taking approximately one week. Please note, if you reside on a County road, the clean up will take a little longer since it must be done by hand. Our loaders cannot block traffic on a County roadway.

We cannot prioritize logs until all of the brush is completely picked up that is why the logs are left for now.

I want to reiterate that our DPW still has to provide every day services to our town such as trash/recycling and any other normal day to day operations. Our department has been working overtime to some extent since the storm of June 23, 2015. The borough is expecting to recover expenses that have occurred from this storm through FEMA so our budget is not completely affected.

Superintendent Mark Mauger appreciates the patience and cooperation of our residents.

Thank you.

Safe Transaction Zone
flower Safe Transaction Zone

SafetyThe Berlin Police Department is proud to announce the designation of a safety zone where citizens can make sales and purchases through sites like Craigslist.

"The safe transaction zones are designed to help protect our citizens as robberies, thefts and scams become more prevalent with online transaction sites," says Chief Michael DeLorenzo.

Safe Transaction Zones have been set up in the lobby and surrounding parking lots of the Berlin Police Headquarters at 59 S. White Horse ...

The announcement comes after a previous investigation where a man was charged in the deaths of a couple whose bodies were found in rural Georgia. They apparently were lured by the suspect through a Craigslist ad with hopes of buying an antique Mustang convertible. The victims, in their 60s, had been shot in the head.

Members of the Berlin Police Department say they will not participate in transactions or act as witnesses. "Our employees are not available for legal advice or allowed to settle disputes between parties involved in transactions occurring in our facility," Chief DeLorenzo said. Transactions involving weapons, drugs and/or drug paraphernalia are barred from the zones.

The lobby of the Berlin Police Department is available 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Anyone using the lobby to complete a transaction is asked to notify the police matron. Residents using the facility during the weekend or after hours are encouraged to use the parking lots which are under video surveillance.

To Pet Owners
flower The municipal clerk’s office is getting a lot of complaints about animal waste on sidewalks and grass near and around sidewalks in many areas of the borough. Realizing that animal owners do not have many areas to walk their pets, we ask that you carry with you the means of disposing of your pet’s waste. It is very unfair for our community to be subject to this problem and it is very unfair for those of you who are considerate and DO pick up after your animals.

Below is a link put out by the Department of Environmental Protection that we also have posted under our Storm Water Management Site. Please take the time to read this article and please help us keep Berlin clean.
