Exit Drills In The Home Save Lives!
For early detection of fires, install a smoke detector on each level of your home and especially near your sleeping areas.
Design a home fire escape plan and practice using it.
Establishing Exit Drills In The Home (E.D.I.T.H.) will insure that everyone in the home is familiar with the proper prodedures should a fire break out.
Provide an escape ladder or rope for sleeping areas located above the first floor of your home. Check to make certain the escape ladder or rope is safe.
Check that any windows that may be used in an emergency are easily opened.
EXIT DRILLS IN THE HOME
(E.D.I.T.H.)
- Prepare a floor plan of your home. The plan should show at least two ways out of each room (usually the door and a window)
- Sleep with your bedroom door closed. It will help keep heat and smoke out.
- Agree on a meeting place that everyone is familiar with (a tree, telephone pole, fire hydrant etc.).
- Make sure no one goes back inside. GET OUT and STAY OUT.
- Practice - Practice makes perfect.
